Day 4 to Assisi
The weather forecast looked decidedly dodgy for today and I had decided that if it was raining at breakfast, I would keep Rusty and wine company in a restaurant instead of riding. It was a beautiful morning so I decided to get on with it and stop being a wimp.
It was a beautiful ride to start with, up and down the Tuscan rollercoaster again.

My legs were decidedly stiff at the start but they are definitely getting stronger and happier (ish).

With 5 miles to go, a massive storm hit with lightning, thunder and biblical rain - Bob was swimming along the roads. I battled my way up the last hill into Assisi and arrived utterly soaked to find a dry, warm hubby happily reading his book.

Tempted to do a bit of catnapping...
After a really good dinner in a Taverna, obviously the storms started again - I now need to attempt to dry out trainers and bike shoes

The storm clouds started building and by lunchtime we were thoroughly soaked. Danilo (the guide) had found a room next to a bar to set up the picnic which we well and truly drowned. After a very strong coffee and with a dry jacket, I set off again into the dramatic countryside. At some point Tuscany became Umbria

I really wanted to see Assisi so we braved the elements and walked into the centre - it was badly damaged in an earthquake in 1997 and has been painstakingly rebuilt, including the frescoes piece by piece
